Battery powered winter warmth
We recently had a company reach out to us for a gear review. Meltivo designs and produces a line of battery powered heated jackets, and asked us if we would be willing to evaluate one of their garments on Road Dirt. I informed them that, “You must understand, we are a motorcycle media company, so anything we review is going to be in light of its usefulness to motorcyclists.” They agreed, and sent me one of their jackets for use and review.
The Meltivo heated jacket is not specifically a motorcycle riding garment, as it has no built-in armor anywhere. To use it while riding, the jacket would have to be an undergarment to armored gear. So I told them we would review it that way, once we got into colder weather here in the south. We have initially examined the jacket’s features, and find it to be of fine quality and superior comfort. Made with fleece lining throughout, the material is soft and flexible, with a zip-off hood, multiple pockets within and without, and quality snag-free zippers.
Liking this jacket already. Soft, comfortable fit, lots of nice features.
Now for the battery heating system. The 5000mAh, 7.4v battery pack hides down in a lower left inside lined pocket, protected from the elements. Easily charged with a couple of different USB ports (which can then be used to charge your in-pocket cell phone), the jacket has seven warming zones- two across the chest, two across the back, one around the neck/shoulders area, and two across the elbows and forearms. With three heat settings, you can maintain core and arm comfort quite easily. The system warms quickly, with battery life estimated at 3-10+ hours, depending on the setting. That seems a bit on the low end to us, given some of the REV’IT! heated gear we’ve reviewed before. We’ll test that more specifically soon.
Neale Bayly spent a couple of days with us, and we got some local riding in together. He wore the jacket while we hit the backcountry roads around Road Dirt HQ, and he really liked the fit, feel, and function of the jacket. “This is super comfortable,” Neale observed, “soft flexible material, and that warming element works really well. Very nice bit of kit!” So far, our impressions are favorable for the jacket.
Neale sampling the jacket while we ride the Yamaha MT-07 and Honda SCL500 for a couple of days. Fall is definitely in the air, and on the ground.
We’ll conduct some more testing of the garment as we get into colder weather here in the south, but for those of you north of us, who are already experiencing colder climes, Meltivo is offering an early season saving, and a special Road Dirt discount code: RD20
If you’re interested in trying one out for yourself or someone in your life, Meltivo carries the jacket in both a women’s and a men’s cut, multiple sizes for each.

i have a Milwaukee battery powered heated jacket i use under my Olympia riding coat, i doubt i get 3 hours out of the battery.
We’ve been pleasantly surprised by this one so far. Decent battery life, esp. on the lowest of the three settings.
