Riding The Yamaha MT-10 SP

When the MT-10 was first launched back in 2016, it struck a polarizing figure with that “love it or hate it” Japanese cyberpunk, transformer styling. Then add in that addictive R1-derived powerplant mated to a chassis that strikes a balance between aggressive and comfortable ergonomics. While out of the box many raved about the motorcycle, others felt some upgrades would really take things to the next level and really allow the bike to shine. Unfortunately, here in the USA we often are left wanting when special versions are released only in Europe or Asia. After the MT-10 was released it followed a similar pattern with an SP version, and we were left wishing we lived across the pond.

Honda’s Hooligan- 2022 Honda CB1000R

We were granted the opportunity to sample a CB1000R Black Edition for a little over a month, and what struck me first was the attention to detail in this all-blacked out motorbike. No substantial chrome or brushed aluminum anywhere, from the tank and fenders, to the forks, wheels, radiator and airbox covers, swingarm, headers and pipes, you name it. Black on black. To top it off, Honda tacked on very nice machined bits all around, on the handlebar clamp, swingarm pivots, rear hub, wheel spokes, footpeg mounts and engine covers. This bike is an attention-getter, everywhere we’ve ridden and parked it.

A Ride on the Wild Side- Triumph’s Speed Triple 1200 RS

I first fell in love with Triumph’s Triple motorcycles when I owned a 1999 Sprint 955i ST some years back. The torque and pull in each gear, the howl of that three cylinder mill through the single right side pipe, and the sheer thrill of screaming around Road Atlanta, Talledega GP or down some lonesome country road at ungodly digits was addictive. That Sprint was my first true sportbike, having always been a cruiser or standard rider before, and it changed my life by opening up a whole new world to me of “Power, Performance and Handling”. I still enjoy cruisers, but my heart has turned. There’s no going back. I’m a “PPH” fan now. So it’s little wonder I salivated to get my hands on this latest iteration of Triumph’s Triple line.

Rolling With A Rebel

Honda’s venerable Rebel has been a staple in the brand’s cruiser line for decades. First introduced in 1985 as a small displacement/entry level 250cc twin, the bike was bumped up to a 450cc in 1986 and immediately lived up to its name by raising the ire of Harley-Davidson for its cruiser looks and distinctive growl, which the Motor Company unsuccessfully sued them over. The Rebels, both the 250 and short-lived 450, were targeted at younger riders from the outset, in hopes of attracting a new generation to motorcycling. The bike has remained in the Honda CM and CMX line of cruisers off and on over the years before undergoing a complete makeover in 2017, which produced the upgraded 300cc and 500cc bikes that have sold so well to newbies and old farts alike.

Gear Review: REAX Poseidon Dry Bag

Our annual fall road trip was looming, and we were excited for the chance to attack the undulating curvy tarmac of the Southern Appalachians. To top it off, we were flying Ted in from his home in Washington State to share the adventure with us, a prospect all of us were looking forward to. Phil at the time still owned his Harley-Davidson Fat Boy, so we put Ted on that, yet had the dilemma of finding adequate motorcycle luggage that he could use with the bike for our week in the mountains.
Cycle Gear to the rescue.
