Route 66 Turns 100: Tour With EAGLERIDER This Summer

EAGLERIDER is sponsoring an epic adventure on the world famous route in this 100th anniversary year, leading a tour from the road’s beginning point in Chicago, all the way across the continent, to the terminus at the Santa Monica Pier. Billed as the “Route 66 Centennial Tour”, EAGLERIDER is inviting only 66 riders worldwide to join them on the 16-day epic journey, riding out of Chicago on June 23rd and arriving in Santa Monica on July 8th.

The news shocked me, as I awoke to the text from his wife Lena that simply stated, “Mike has passed away”. The message had arrived just after 5am EST, and I sat on the edge of the bed, stunned and momentarily unable to move. “This can’t be,” I wondered aloud, as Lisa woke up to the news as well. “I was just over there the other day, visiting with Mike while Lena ran out to do some shopping. He seemed to feel pretty good, was in good spirits. I’m shocked.” I honestly thought Mike would make it through the holidays, and into early 2024, January or February. But now he was gone, in an overnight. The tears began to flow.

I think there is something in our biking DNA, something that makes us wonder and wander and spirit us to adventure. We may be our nation’s last living symbol of American freedom, exploring the frontier and what the hell ever comes our way. Thankfully, there are still parts of this country that seem untouched by civilization, wild and ancient and otherworldly lands.
