Scram 411 Coming To America
by Road Dirt Crew | Aug 25, 2022 | Bikes & Gear | 0 |
Ever since we enjoyed the opportunity to throttle around on Royal Enfield’s Himalayan a couple of years ago, we believed they had a winner in the diminutive but highly capable and supremely affordable ADV bike. Turns out we were right, as the Himi has been a runaway best seller for the legendary motorcycle brand the world over these past few years. So its not surprising the world’s oldest continually-in-production motorbike company would begin to offer variations on the venerable Himalayan platform, now evidenced in the sporty looking Scram 411 coming this fall.

September in the Pacific Northwest is Gods gift to motorcyclists. Cool air descends from Cascade Mountain crests chilling the warm valley floor like God’s own air conditioning, as select leaves turn colors, giving a preview of the fall to come. Crisp water from the appropriately named Icicle River dribbled to our left, foaming over smooth boulders as we rode.
So I celebrated the priceless moment by goosing the throttle, letting the rear step out in a slow, steady dirt drift while ahead of me Donni Reddington did the same, only in a much better way since she coaches dirt riders for a living at Skool Of Moto. If you asked either of us we would tell you, life will never get better than this, or more strange. I never thought I would be doing this on a Harley. But is it really that surprising?
Under A Blood Red Moon

I freaked out as I didn’t understand what was happening above me.
The full moon was slowly turning from a bright white to a burgundy red color right before my eyes. It was like a scene from a bad horror movie where the plot was something along the lines of an evil witch/vampire/sorcerer who had been locked away in an eroding iron cell for centuries, only to regain their powers on the eve of a rising blood moon that only took place once every five-hundred years.
2021 Royal Enfield Himalayan Review

After rolling into a gas station while out on a day ride, a young lady across the pump from me quipped, “That looks like fun. What kind of motorcycle is it?” I shared it was a Royal Enfield Himalayan, to which she jokingly replied, “Himalayan! It’s a long way from home!” When I told her a bit more about the bike, including what they sell for here in the States, she exclaimed, “Wow, now that’s a bike I would ride!” She thanked me then drove off in her SUV as I reflected on our brief conversation. It was living proof of what I think Royal Enfield is up to with this bike- a small, lightweight, simple, affordable, do-everything motorcycle for the masses. Could the Himalayan really be the best value ADV for the money? Maybe the best value motorcycle for the money?

Nestled among the ancient, sublime Great Smoky Mountains of western North Carolina, down a winding, narrow road through a verdant valley, lies a secluded, 40+ acre motorcycle resort that attracts riders from across the continent and even the world. Iron Horse Motorcycle Lodge & Resort, first established in 2003 “by riders for riders”, resides along a meandering, burbling creek fed by chilly mountain waters, and serves as the perfect base camp for some of the best motorcycle riding in North America.
