Sneak Peek: Triumph TE-1 Electric Prototype

Rumors have flown for several years of Triumph’s dabbling in the electric motorcycle pond. Those rumors are now proven true, and they are definitely doing more than dabbling. With the development and recent testing of their TE-1 electric prototype, it’s fair to say Triumph Motorcycles is jumping in with the full monty. We recently received some early press info about the bike, with some killer photos and track test footage.

Road Dirt Bucket List Bikes of 2022

A Road Dirt reader messaged me over the weekend, asking, “What bikes do you guys hope to be able to ride this year?” I thought that to be a fine question, so I put it to several the Road Dirt fellas, asking them what bikes they’d really like to sample this year. I got some expected answers from a couple of them, as I know their tastes pretty well, but a few others surprised me. So I thought I’d share their faves with you. The list isn’t exhaustive, as each gave me more than one, but I decided to publish their top hopefuls for 2022, to invite discussion and dialogue among our readers. So when you hit the end of the story, drop a comment below and tell us what bike(s) you hope to throw a leg over this year for a test ride!

Living The Dream: An Italian Rides America

Fabrizio is living the dream. Literally.
Fabrizio Uberti-Bona came to America in 1999, with as he states it, “$300 and a dream.” He’s fulfilling that dream, every day. A husband and father, successful businessman, living in the sunshine of Gulf coastal Florida, Fabrizio has also ridden around and across the continental United States via motorcycle, seeing wonders and meeting people many of us born here have yet to enjoy ourselves.
We first discovered Fabrizio‘s unique story through one of our contacts at Triumph North America. Gina from Triumph emailed me saying, “We’ve met a guy from Italy living here now, with a pretty cool story about riding a Rocket 3R across the American west, and thought you might be interested.” We were indeed, and reached out to Fabrizio to connect with him. And what a story we found.

Wielding a Trident

Small, simple, and very approachable, the Trident is nonetheless a rowdy little hooligan bike, built rock solid, that will immediately respond to a throttle dare and hurl you into a thrill ride. The bike possesses that same “What do you want to do? Well let’s go!” attitude, which I picked up on the first time I turned the key, thumbed the starter, engaged 1st and launched out down the rural roads surrounding my home in the north Georgia hill country.

Riding Honda’s 750 and 1000 Hornet

I’m riding a 2025 Honda CB750 Hornet on this our first of a two-day press demo of the new Hornet 750 and 1000 models, and the roar of this 755cc twin as I’m galloping through the swift traffic is fueling my thirst to pin the throttle. This engine is howling, daring me to pour more coal to the fire. I’m obliging, at least as much as I’m able in the fast, dense traffic. Soon, we catch the front group, traffic thins as we roll northeast past Roseville, and we settle into a nice 75 mph cadence heading for the hill country before us.

The Worst Road In The World

Two weeks deep into my journey through the west I am passing through Tonopah to overnight at Ely and eventually ride the Bonneville Salt Flats. Highway 6 connects Tonopah to Ely, a 168 mile stretch of highway dissecting the hot gut of Nevada. There are no services on the road, no towns, no stops, no gas stations, no civilization, not a damn thing. One hundred and sixty eight miles of empty. This crappy Subway restaurant is the last oasis on the way to nowhere, and my last taste of electricity, indoor plumbing and air conditioning. At least the employees here are friendly, or trying to be.

First Ride: 2025 Yamaha R9

Fast forward a few months and I happily found myself packing my track gear and jumping on a plane for sunny Sonoma, California for the official Yamaha R9 press event at Sonoma Raceway. With such anticipation and hype around the bike over the years and having recently watched the bike debut in World Supersport with a win, I was extremely excited for the opportunity to be one of the first people stateside to throw a leg over the bike.
