Eye Candy: MV Agusta Superveloce 1000 Serie Oro
by Road Dirt Crew | Dec 14, 2022 | Bikes & Gear | 0 |
Now the Italians have upped the ante again, by debuting an all-new Superveloce 1000 Serie Oro. It’s limited edition, so out of reach numerically and economically for most, but who among us doesn’t enjoy gazing and gawking at a rolling piece of exquisite motorcycle art? This Serie Oro build most certainly is that. MV Agusta didn’t even debut it at EICMA, opting to unveil it at a “more intimate” gathering nearby, with company dignitaries and select media present. And of course, Ago himself in attendance.

Exiting turn 7 at the top of the track some racers call “the North Georgia rollercoaster”, I’m hard on the throttle as the XSR900 uprights, and clicking up through the gears as I rocket down the long, undulating back straight of this famous course, the Yamaha triple howling down the hill. Road Atlanta is legendary for its highly challenging layout, which winds up and down a hillside that could easily have been a ski slope in colder climates of the country. From the tight twisty “Esses” after climbing turn 1, to turns 6-7 at the pinnacle, down the long back stretch to the 45 degree pairings of 10A and 10B, then floating the front up under the bridge before the free fall to turn 12 and the front straight, Road Atlanta is a wild ride of technical curves and elevation changes.
And here we were putting the 2022 Yamaha XSR900 through its paces.
A Racer Rides A Sportster

My heart has always been in sport bikes but I find myself with increasing interest in other forms of motorcycles, from motocross, supermoto, adventure, touring bikes, even the electric bike movement is starting to gain curiosity to me. One area however, that has never quite taken hold for me has been the cruiser world.

Italian women are often portrayed in pop culture as sophisticated, sensuous, and svelte. They are also frequently portrayed as hot-headed and mercurial, quick to slap the crap out of you should you press your luck. And yet who among us guys, at some point in our lives weren’t gobsmacked at some Italian beauty we beheld, on screen or in print? We desired her, dreamed of her, even if we knew we might never have her.
Such is often our reaction to the sleek Italian motorcycle brands, and their exotic models. Beautiful yet volatile, alluring yet threatening, they beckon us to take them for a ride, dare us really, and yet are more than prepared to smack us down should we misbehave with them.
MV Agusta USA Unveils The Superveloce

While attending the MotoAmerica race weekend at Barber Motorsports Park, Road Dirt photog Dean Phelps and I had the unique opportunity to attend the unveiling of an entirely new motorcycle being debuted by MV Agusta. While up in the media center at race control, Doug McCloskey, the CEO of MV Agusta USA walked up and introduced himself, and invited me to a special “reveal party” to be held that night across the track in the famed Motorsports Museum. “We’d be thrilled and honored,” I assured Doug.
