First Look: Triumph’s Speed 400 and Scrambler 400x
by Road Dirt Crew | Jun 28, 2023 | Bikes & Gear | 0 |
With nearly every other motorcycle brand in the world producing small displacement motorcycles and selling them by the millions, Triumph’s decision to finally enter the fray is long overdue. The two highest-selling categories in U.S. motorcycle sales, according to several brand reps we have contact with, are off-road/dual-sport/adventure, and small displacement street. For our purposes, we’ll define small displacement street as road motorcycles 500cc and smaller. And Triumph just announced a pair of entrants for the 2024 model year- The Speed 400, and Scrambler 400x.
It’s about time.
Long-Term Review: Harley-Davidson Nightster Special
by Rob Brooks | May 5, 2023 | Bikes & Gear | 9 |
Rolling up to a four-way stop in the left turn lane, I noticed an old white pickup truck pull up next to me on my right. As I glanced over, I saw a stocky bald guy with a goatee looking the Nightster over, mouth agape, tattooed forearm resting on his open window. After a moment, he muttered in a thick Southern accent, “Whut da hale??” I knew what he was thinking. I simply smiled then throttled off at my green turn arrow, to let him hear the sound I’m sure he didn’t expect from a Harley either.
This bike has elicited a similar reaction nearly everywhere we’ve ridden it.
Eye Candy: MV Agusta Superveloce 1000 Serie Oro
by Road Dirt Crew | Dec 14, 2022 | Bikes & Gear | 0 |
Now the Italians have upped the ante again, by debuting an all-new Superveloce 1000 Serie Oro. It’s limited edition, so out of reach numerically and economically for most, but who among us doesn’t enjoy gazing and gawking at a rolling piece of exquisite motorcycle art? This Serie Oro build most certainly is that. MV Agusta didn’t even debut it at EICMA, opting to unveil it at a “more intimate” gathering nearby, with company dignitaries and select media present. And of course, Ago himself in attendance.

Back in the summer I was visiting my friend Barry, the sales manager at Cycle World of Athens, discussing our time with the Yamaha Tenere 700. “This bike is so popular with the ADV crowd, do you think Honda will respond with a mid-size Africa Twin?” I asked. Barry responded, “Not that we’ve caught wind of yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see them bring back the old Transalp in this size.” I had not thought of that model in quite some time, but it turns out Barry was prophetic in his proclamation. Honda has indeed reintroduced the venerable old adventure bike from yesteryear, in an all-new package and livery.

EICMA (Esposizione Internazionale Ciclo Motociclo e Accessori), or the Milan Motorcycle Shows is an annual trade show in Milan, Italy featuring brands from around the world debuting their next model year motorcycles. The six day event heralds the end of one riding season while showcasing what’s coming in the next. From what we gather there weren’t a great many head-turning reveals, but a few notable exceptions caught our eyes, like the new Suzuki powerplant and bikes we discussed last week. We’ll share a few more interesting unveilings in the days and weeks ahead. We continue with this notable new bike coming from Royal Enfield in 2023.
