FIRST LOOK: Triumph Motocross Motorcycle

Triumph Motorcycles has been teasing their work on a motocross motorcycle for a few years now, and we even published a piece on the R&D of it. Triumph is taking the plunge into the dedicated off-road space, not just with a dual sport or another ADV, but a competition-ready race machine. As the R&D has progressed, Triumph has shared videos of the chassis and the motor, which can be viewed on their YouTube channel. They shared a few photos with us of Ricky Carmichael and Even Ferry ripping around a dirt track astride a pair of the motocross motorbikes.

MZ’s Moto Memories, Part 4

For those who don’t know anything about these, the Suzuki Tc-125 motorcycles were typical street/trail “Enduro” type machines of that era- a single cylinder, oil-injected two stroke with a high mounted front fender and motocross handlebars. What made this particular model so cool was it’s dual range 4-speed transmission, which effectively gave the bike 8 gears.

Chase Sexton and the Brothers Lawrence

Team Honda HRC swept the titles in this year’s Monster Energy AMA Supercross indoor season, with Chase Sexton wrapping up the 450SX title and Aussie brothers Jett and Hunter Lawrence claiming the Western Regional and Eastern Regional titles respectively, before a sold out crowd of nearly 50,000 at Utah’s Rice-Eccles Stadium. Jett also snagged the coveted East/West Showdown race, making it a perfect weekend for Honda HRC. Chase’s championship gave Honda its first Supercross title since 2003, and with the Lawrence brothers’ wins, the weekend was truly historic, marking only the 3rd time ever, and only the 2nd for Honda, that a single manufacturer has captured all three Supercross titles in the same season. And appropriately, they come in the 50th anniversary year of Supercross racing in America.

Triumph at the Baja Aragon Rally

Triumph Motorcycles has been not-so-secretly working on a pair of dirtbikes in recent years, a motocross and an enduro, even as they’ve produced class-leading adventure motorcycles through the years. We had the chance to ride and review the Tiger 900 Rally back two years ago, and found it a fantastic all-around motorcycle. Now a Tiger 900 has won a prestigious off-road endurance race in Europe, in the capable hands of 5-time Enduro world champ Iván Cervantes, who also happens to be a part of the overall Triumph Enduro project.

Playing In The Dirt Again

I am chasing Barry down another rarely-travelled unpaved road out in east central Georgia, barely able to make out his silhouette ahead of me from the cloud of red clay and gravel dust he and others ahead of him are kicking up. I’m alternating between sitting and standing, bouncing and sliding along about 45 mph, hard on the little 300’s throttle, trying to keep them at least vaguely in sight. I am telling myself, audibly at times, “Relax, breathe, keep a loose grip on the grips, let the bike float and move beneath you. You’re doing fine.”
