Crossing inhospitable, otherworldly, vast open landscapes, just finishing the grueling odyssey is an achievement in and of itself. From intense heat to freezing nights, dry desert dunes to drenching downpours, those who undertake this grueling contest are another level of courage or crazy.

Still in the thick of the Covid pandemic last year, the motorcycle industry nonetheless had another banner year, posting positive sales numbers by 2021 year-end. In the US of A alone, motorcycle sales across all categories were up by 21.8% since 2019, with even scooter sales up by 19.6%. Dual-sport and ADV sales skyrocketed, up 18.6% over 2020, which itself was up a whopping 46.2% over 2019, according to the Motorcycle Industry Council. People followed the “social distancing” mandates by hopping on motorcycles and rolling out into the wide world of fresh air and open spaces.

Jake Gagne wrapped up the 2021 MotoAmerica Superbike Championship across a record-setting weekend at New Jersey Motorsports Park, the Californian winning his 16th race of the season to match the record held jointly by Josh Hayes and Cameron Beaubier for Superbike wins in a single season, while also tying three-time 500cc World Champion Wayne Rainey’s mark for career AMA Superbike victories.

Americans Podium at the 2021 ISDE

Two of the U.S. ISDE teams visited the podium in their respective classes as the FIM International Six Days Enduro came to an end in Italy. The Women’s World Trophy team not only won gold for the U.S. but did so in spectacular fashion, beating second-place finishers Great Britain by just over 15 minutes. The Men’s U.S. World Trophy team, after running third throughout the event, maintained its third-place podium position.

Early on, it looked as if Bauman was going to have to pull it out of his helmet if he were to end his winless streak on this night.
