The Daytona 200- America’s Festival of Speed

With the 80th running of the acclaimed Daytona 200 this year (weather permitting), we thought a dive into the archives to view the long and storied history of this legendary motorcycle race was in order. From it’s actual origins in Savannah, Georgia in 1932, to the sands of Daytona Beach, ultimately riding the high banks of the Daytona International Speedway, the Daytona 200 has attracted many of the top motorcycle racers in the world to come make their mark on the “World Center of Speed”.

2022 Isle of Man TT Live Broadcast Announced

After a two-year hiatus because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the full two-week slate of races returns May 28-June 11 and will be broadcast live worldwide for the first time in the event’s long history. Due to be carried by the Isle of Man TT’s new OTT (over-the-top, meaning bypassing leading internet services and providers) streaming service in partnership with Vimeo video provider, the races will be carried on IOMTT’s own platform called TT+, which will be open and available by early April.

Another Year Without The TT

Just when I thought hope was on the horizon, the pandemic reared its ugly head once again. Last week, I learned that one of the highlights of the sporting calendar, the Isle of Man TT, has been cancelled for 2021. The upcoming races were scheduled to start at the end of May. So, despite the promising news involving international vaccine programs to combat the spread of Covid-19, it would appear that 2021 will be a far cry from normal as well (at least to start the year).

The Marvelous Isle of Man

At some point in the future, as we look back on the year 2020, there will be several asterisks noting that the pandemic interrupted everything from sporting events to concerts and conventions. We are all facing that harsh reality, including those of us in the motorcycle community who look forward to the annual races and rallies. Yet for me, it was the cancellation of one of the sport’s most renowned contests that really hit home, specifically the legendary Isle of Man TT.
