Ryan Nolan Talks With MotoAmerica Racers Max Flinders and Ben Smith At The Close Of The Laguna Seca Race Round

I had the privilege to attend the final MotoAmerica round at the famous Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca race track, a definite thrill for me. It was an amazing weekend on so many levels, from thrilling on-track races in all classes, surprising announcements from Cameron Beaubier and Toni Elias, the off-the-chain King of the Baggers competition, and my own opportunity to turn some laps on the fabled track (more on that in an upcoming story).

I interviewed the expressive and enthusiastic Englishman Max Flinders of Thrashed Bike Racing at the end of the race weekend. Max reflected on the strange closing of the season of racing without fans in the stands, the struggles and changes they made to stay competitive across the three weekend races, and what he hopes for next year:

I chatted up Supersport racer Ben Smith of Team North East Cycle Outlet, after his races as well. Ben took a dive at the fabled Corkscrew in race 1 after chasing the returning 2015 Supersport champ JD Beach. We then discussed his performance in race 2, battling back with the front runners and taking a 4th place finish.

Ben is an intense, focused racer, and we discussed both races, his mistakes and strengths, as well as how satisfied he is with how his season wrapped up at Laguna. Ben will be a serious contender for the front in Supersport next year, and we discuss his plans in the off-season:

It’s been quite a season in MotoAmerica, and we at Road Dirt enjoyed covering all the race action. Max and Ben were enjoyable to talk with across the season, and we appreciate the opportunity to share their stories this year.

More to come on my exciting weekend at Laguna Seca, so stay tuned to Road Dirt.
