Rob’s Monthly Musings: Full Circle
by Rob Brooks | Nov 25, 2024 | Ride Life | 2 |
Sitting in a breakfast diner outside Charlotte, North Carolina, Neale Bayly and I are chowing down on scrambled eggs and bacon, chugging coffee. While prattling on about future Road Dirt story ideas, he suddenly stops, looks me in the eyes and suggests, “Rob, you should write a monthly ‘column’ yourself. Several of us write monthly musings for Road Dirt, but our readers don’t get that from you, the ‘head honcho’ so to speak. You’ve got so many personal stories to tell of your own, I believe the Road Dirt community would love getting to know you a bit better, don’t you think?” I had honestly never thought about that. Maybe I should. So here I go with some personal reflections on November.

MV Agusta has produced a limited edition Superveloce in honor of the great Giacomo Agostini, whom the AMA once described as “perhaps the greatest Grand Prix rider of all time.” This special 2022 edition Superveloce hearkens back to the multi-year world championships Agostini accrued with dramatic period paint reminiscent of his title-winning bikes. MV is only producing 311 of these, for his total career wins, and the first 15 produced are dedicated to the 15 world titles Ago took across his 17-year racing career.

MV Agusta just pulled the wraps off their updated exclusive RUSH 1000 for 2021, with styling cues and performance upgrades over last year’s debut of the bike. First revealed as a limited edition 2020 model, the 2021 Rush offers the same 998cc inline four powerplant in the tubular trellis frame that their Brutale 1000RR rolls with, but sports a rounded LED headlight, trimmed and reshaped tail section, and a cool rear disc wheel, among many other improvements. Each bike will be sold with a numbered certificate of authenticity as well.

Italian women are often portrayed in pop culture as sophisticated, sensuous, and svelte. They are also frequently portrayed as hot-headed and mercurial, quick to slap the crap out of you should you press your luck. And yet who among us guys, at some point in our lives weren’t gobsmacked at some Italian beauty we beheld, on screen or in print? We desired her, dreamed of her, even if we knew we might never have her.
Such is often our reaction to the sleek Italian motorcycle brands, and their exotic models. Beautiful yet volatile, alluring yet threatening, they beckon us to take them for a ride, dare us really, and yet are more than prepared to smack us down should we misbehave with them.
IMS Outdoors- From Convention To Carnival

I remember the very first IMS show I ever attended. It was in North Atlanta, at a large convention venue called the Cobb Galleria. A bunch of guys and gals in my riding group had taken the bikes on a chilly January morning around the north Atlanta perimeter, to attend the show on a Saturday. We arrived well before the doors ever opened, purchased our tickets, and awaited the grand entrance. When IMS flung the doors open, The visual moto-feast I beheld raised the hair on the back of my neck. Expansive displays of current and coming models from all the major national and international brands, chrome, paint and rubber from one end of the convention floor to the other. Marques lofted their logo banners, rock music wafted over the sound system, young women walked around passing out show packets. I was in motorcycle heaven.
