Heavy-duty bike cover with a unique design feature
We recently were contacted by CoverSeal, a company that manufactures heavy-duty weighted covers for automobiles, tractors, and outdoor appliances like large grills and patio furniture. They have now developed a weighted motorcycle cover, and asked if we’d be interested in receiving one for review. We obliged, and within a week had a large, heavy box delivered to our doorstep at Road Dirt HQ.
Once we got it open, we realized how large this cover was. The thing is a beast, weighing approximately 30 lbs. Rob could practically cover both of his personal motorcycles with it, so we decided to review the cover using my 2017 Harley-Davidson Road Glide. I took the cover back to my house and spread it out on the floor in my garage, next to my bike. Its material and construction is impressive, very high-quality, and that weighted base around the entire perimeter is something we’ve not seen on a motorcycle cover before.
This is a fine, functional motorcycle cover.
The CoverSeal has been tested by a few other motorcycle media out there as well, who observe that the 360° weighted base stays in place regardless of wind and rain, at least up to a reasonable extent. That makes sense, given the weight and construction of this cover. And no critters getting underneath, chewing through, or climbing in through the vents at the bars. Based on what we’re reading from other testers and customers, the tough materials hold up well to the elements, without discoloring or ripping.
The only issues I can see with this cover so far is firstly, it’s sheer size and weight, making it impractical to carry along on road trips. Seriously, this thing is huge, even stuffed back in the bag. Second, we see no way to lock it to the bike, so it or the bike won’t get stolen. Several other outdoor or long-term bike storage covers we’ve seen on the market have lockability features built in, while the CoverSeal does not, at least as far as we can find on it. Third, you can have any size you want in the CoverSeal bike cover, as long as it is LARGE. Sorry, Rob.
Velcroed vents at the high point over the bars is a welcome feature.
The cover is not difficult to throw over the bike, as long as it’s laid out properly before pulling it over. I laid it out parallel to the right side of my Road Glide, and starting from the front, was able to easily slide it over my 12” KST bars then over the rest of the bike. If you’ve got “apes” larger than 14”, you might have some gap along the weighted base in the front, just to caution you. The cover slipped over the rest of the Harley quite easily, and even had ample room in the back for bikes with rear touring packs.
Personally, I like this cover, for its construction, it’s size for big touring bikes, and that 360° weighted perimeter. That’s a very cool feature, and really makes it worth the price, in my estimation. Just keep in mind, this cover is best suited for outdoor use, long-term storage, or in parking garages. If you need a cover for travel, definitely find something smaller and more light weight.
Pulls over fairly easy, just be careful with the weighted base as you slide over your mirrors.
Here’s a few bullet points we’ve compiled so far, in summary:
KEY FEATURES
360° Weighted Bottom: The cover’s patented design includes a weighted, sewn-in apron that seals it to the ground or floor, effectively preventing wind uplift and deterring rodents, insects and the like from getting underneath.
Durable Material: Constructed from 420D polyester ripstop fabric, the cover is water-resistant and reflects up to 90% of sunlight, safeguarding the motorcycle from UV damage and supposedly high temperatures up to 300°F.
Ventilation and Protection: Equipped with air ventilation pockets to prevent moisture buildup and a soft inner lining to protect the windshield from scratches.
CUSTOMER FEEDBACK
*A reviewer from Iron Trader News tested the cover during some pretty windy and rainy conditions, and observed that the weighted bottom really did keep dirt and rain from reaching the bike, stating, “I was very impressed and would encourage anyone to purchase this product.”
*On social media, an influencer commented, “We tested the CoverSeal Motorcycle Cover in wind and rain- and it held up like a beast. Heavy-duty, rodent-resistant, and built to last.”
*One customer wrote, “This CoverSeal is a life-saver, and does exactly what it says it does. I can’t recommend it enough!”
There appears to be ample room for a touring pack being covered as well.
Every piece of gear, equipment or accessory has it’s own unique pros and cons, so we thought these observations would be helpful:
Pros:
- Effective protection against weather elements and pests.
- Stays securely in place without additional straps or cords.
- Reflective material reduces heat buildup and UV damage.
- Vented at the handlebars for heat/humidity release.
- Fits nearly all large touring motorcycles, even those with touring packs.
- Well-suited for out in the elements, long-term storage, and in parking garages.
Cons:
- The cover is larger and heavier than standard options at nearly 30 lbs., which may affect installation and portability.
- The loose-fitting design might not appeal to those preferring a more snug fit around their bike.
- No varying sizes, just a one-size-fits-all.
- No way (that we’ve yet to find) to lock the cover to the bike, nor rings/grommets for securing straps.
The CoverSeal Heavy-Duty Weighted Motorcycle Cover is priced at $200, reflecting its size, premium materials and unique features. Worth the investment? We think so, if you’re needing this kind of protection. Hard to go wrong with this beast of a cover.
