Royal Enfield Shotgun 650: The Ultimate Budget Bobber?

Over the past two months, I’ve had the chance to ride and live with the Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 in its clean, classic Stencil White colorway. In that time, I put nearly 600 miles on the bike, riding to the gym, commuting to work, running errands, and even taking it on a day-long highway trip out of state. The warning signs at the beginning of the off-road section of our ride alarmed me, however. “Travel At Your Own Risk”, “Dangerous Road Ahead”, among others had me wondering why I was here. I’m primarily a street rider, and I feared this segment might take me way out of my wheelhouse and skill level.

Returning from a 16-day mission/relief trip to Indonesia with 127 Legacy Foundation, I longed to unwind on a motorcycle and ride off into uncrowded countryside. Through exhaustion, overseas illness, and jet-lag, I mused, “I’m always better on a bike.”

Top Five Fave Bikes of 2023

After some discussion, a little debate, and maybe a thumb-wrestling match or two, here are our top five favorite motorcycles that we got to ride in 2023. We’ll review them in reverse order from fifth to first. We also have a few “honorable mentions” to toss in at the end as well. We must point out that there was not a bike we rode in 2023 that we didn’t love, so just because some aren’t mentioned doesn’t mean they are not great bikes. We just decided to drill down on a few faves.
So let’s dive in!
