Beautiful Bikes: Ducati Formula 73

We recently wrote about some motorcycles debuting this year that caught our eye. Some we hope to ride, others are what we categorized as, “unobtainium”. Either way, all are beautiful, and we love beautiful motorcycles. This latest offering from Ducati is another example, both historic-looking and drop-dead gorgeous, as well as out of reach for the majority of us proletariat. Nonetheless, it caught our eye, so we felt compelled to share a little bit about the Formula 73, as the Italian motorcycle manufacturer has dubbed it.

A Day At The Ducati Museum

My wife and I took a trip to Italy and Spain recently, our first trip to either country, and being a long time MotoGP and motorcycle racing enthusiast I had to take advantage of being in an area full of motorcycle racing talent, tracks and experiences. Our trip was over Christmas and New Years so with no races going on, I knew the one place I wanted to visit- the Ducati Museum in Bologna, Italy.

Ducati Enters Supercross

It’s early in the new year, and motorcycle racing is already beginning. The annual Dakar Rally is now several days in, and here in the states, the Monster Energy Supercross World Championship series kicks off in Anaheim, CA this weekend. Among the contenders lining up at the starting gates will be another internationally known and respected brand in Ducati. Partnering with Red Bull and Troy Lee Designs, Ducati is betting the farm on having success in the dirt like they do in MotoGP, MotoAmerica, and other race series.

Trippin’ On Two Wheels, Part 1

It all started in a seaside resort in Italy. Well, to be a bit more accurate it started at the Misano Circuit Sic 58 in the summer of 2002. June 14th to be precise. It was the first World Ducati Week and the festivities ran through to the weekend that the circuit hosted its round of the World Superbikes series. At that time American Ben Bostrom was flying high and Troy Baylis was the reigning world champion, both on Ducati 998s, while Colin Edwards was attempting to break the Ducati dominance on his Honda. Heady times. Well not as heady as ending up with a bedroom next to Ben Bostrom’s heartthrob girlfriend. But I digress.
