Through The Lens: The Fong Factor
by Geoff & Barb Nickless | Sep 23, 2025 | Industry & Racing, Ride Life | 4 |
September 26th-28th in New Jersey, one of these three talented riders will wear the number 1 plate next season. As the points currently stand, after 27 races, Bobby is in the lead with 314, Cameron second with 306, and Josh third with 292. It’s anyone’s guess who will claim the 2025 championship, with only three 20-lap races to go and 75 points up for grabs. Currently, Bobby has five 1st place finishes, Cameron has five, and Josh six. If somehow there is a tie in points, these stats become very important in determining who will clinch the Superbike title. Will the “Fong Factor” come into play in New Jersey?

On a motorcycle, the rider is not contained in a sealed compartment. We are out in the elements, wrapped around a motorized, moving two wheeled machine, hurtling headlong through time and space, completely exposed to the environment. We feel the wind, road irregularities, temperature changes, the vibrations of the mechanical monster we are riding.

Splitting the wood took all day and made me horribly thirsty so I kept the garden hose running and drank often, which helped wash the beer out of my mouth because when we went woodcutting that was what my dad brought us to drink. When the wood was split I fired up the old Honda Trail CT-90 and rode down the street to the nearby empty field for a celebration run. Sometimes I wore a helmet, sometimes not, because of all the things I did as a kid growing up, riding a motorcycle was probably the safest.

As Neale and I talked, he made a beautiful observation- “Think about our Road Dirt crew and community. We’re as diverse as they come. Some of us are people of faith, some of us are not. Some of us lean a bit left, others a bit right. We come from across the country and around the globe. We come from all kinds of backgrounds and lifestyles. We ride all kinds of motorcycles, and we’ve ridden in all kinds of conditions. We are quite the diverse lot, I must say. And yet the tie that binds us all together is our collective love for motorcycles, and the love of riding them. Whatever our differences, that’s our common love, so therefore, our common love for each other.”

To uncover where the passion runs deepest here in the U.S. of A., we recently came across an interesting study of the states with the most motorcycle registrations per capita. Compiled by motorcycle parts specialists Monster Fairings, the report analyzed some recent (2023) Federal Highway Administration motorcycle registration data, comparing both the total number of bikes on the road, and the total number of (known) bikes per capita. Examining over 8.7 million registrations nationwide, the study revealed which states are more saturated with motorcycle ownership and registration, which ones drive the biggest markets, and how geography, culture, and population shapes American’s moto passion.
The results were surprising, actually.
Phil’s Op-Ed: Breaking Down Barriers to the Ride Life
by Phil Gauthier | Aug 26, 2025 | Ride Life | 0 |
At Road Dirt we talk, write about and live the “Ride Life”. It’s more than a slogan, it’s a way of life for us. We believe riding unencumbered by seatbelts & cages lets the soul truly experience travel in a special way. We love sharing how beautiful riding a motorcycle can be by soaking in the sun and wind and aromas you just can’t experience in a car (cage for those in the know). We hope that our stories will motivate people, young and old, to consider buying a motorbike and joining the riding community to experience the joys we all do on two.

For the last several years, my friend Max and I have been taking summer motorcycle road trips in August. This year I decided I would take all of my Road Dirt and social media friends along for the trip, by documenting our travels on Facebook. Max was riding his 2014 Harley Road Kiing and I was riding my 2018 Honda Goldwing.

In March of 2010, a fresh-faced 17 year old named Cameron Beaubier won the first AMA professional race of his career at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. Today, at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, Beaubier won his 90th career race, making him the winningest road racer across all classes in AMA Pro Racing history. He’s now a 32-year-old, five-time MotoAmerica Superbike Champion, husband, and father. And arguably the face of the series.

by Rob Brooks | Aug 13, 2025 | Bikes & Gear, Ride Life | 0 |
The idea for EagleRider was birthed in 1992, in the imaginations of two AT&T employees, Chris McIntyre and Jeff Brown. The coworkers and friends wanted to take sabbaticals from their jobs and travel around the country on Harleys. At the time, neither owned a motorcycle yet, so they tried renting bikes from dealerships, unsuccessfully. Discovering there were no rental services across the country, the two had the idea to start their own. As they both put it, “We saw demand, but no supply!” They figured that plenty of men and women riders, when traveling, would jump at the chance to rent a motorcycle when away from home. They figured correctly. Chris and Jeff were soon joined by Peter Wurmer and Robert Pitts, and the friends opened their first rental shop in Peter’s garage in San Pedro, CA, with four motorcycles the guys purchased themselves.
And to quote English historian John Wade, “The rest is history.”
